Who pays import duties and taxes?
Import duties and taxes are set by the destination country’s customs authority and apply to international shipments.
Buyer responsibility
In most cases, duties and taxes are payable by the buyer before delivery. Buyers are shown an import fees notice prior to completing payment.
Carrier & customs exceptions
Depending on the shipping carrier, service selected, or customs processing, duties/taxes may sometimes be requested from the seller (sender) at the time of shipping or delivery.
If this occurs, we strongly recommend resolving the charges before sending the dress.
Sellers may choose to:
- Not send the dress
- Cancel/refund the transaction and submit a revised payment request, including duties.
If a seller chooses to prepay duties without prior agreement, recovery of those charges becomes a matter between buyer and seller.
Stillwhite does not determine, collect, or control import duties and taxes.
If duties are unpaid
Duties and taxes are typically required before delivery. If these charges are not paid, the shipment may be delayed, held, or returned according to carrier and customs policies.
Returns
Buyers are responsible for paying any import taxes or customs duties required for their purchase. In the case of a return, buyers are also responsible for applying for any refunds on these fees from the relevant authorities.
