The Dress

So comfortable to wear and so flattering.
Like most brides, I tried on so many dresses. The shapes, cuts and fabrics I thought would be most flattering were not quite right. A consultant at Lovely Bridal in NYC had the good sense to put me in this dress by Rue De Seine and it was perfect.
The Battenburg lace sits beautifully on curves, accentuating without being constricting. The pattern at the waistline also accentuates and adds a slimming illusion to the waist. I think the nature of the fabric makes the A line cut of this dress feel a little less bulky and a little more form fitting than a typical A line, but is not as constricting as a sheath. It manages to be form fitting but also flowing, with some room to move around in, at the same time.
Also, these were the only cap sleeves I found that were not constricting without being too fluttery and making my arms look bigger.

As the Rue De Seine website states... “A 100% hand made Cotton Battenburg lace gown with a boat neck and capped sleeve. Form fitting silhouette with a fuller hem starting from the hip. Silk Crepe bias cut nude slip included.”

The lace overlay of the dress was taken in around the hips, and both the lace overlay and the slip were shortened. The shortening on the overlay was done from just below the knee, so that the pattern on the bottom of the dress wasn’t lost. My measurements are...bust – 34in, waist – 29in, hips 39in, height - 5’5” and I wore 2.5 in heels.

Due to the “stretchy” nature of the Battenburg lace, it could accommodate slightly larger hips, although it would probably make the dress slightly shorter too. The defined pattern at the waistline has less give, and could accommodate another half an inch.

One button for a bustle was added, as were snaps to the inside of the cap sleeves to keep the straps of the slip in line with the neckline.

The dress is in near perfect condition, with some slight discoloration on the underside along them hem from sweeping on ground. I can send pictures of that, although it barely even shows up in photos.
