The Dress

Excited to share this incredibly special vintage Vera Wang wedding gown, first purchased and worn by its original owner in 1999 and then reworn by me in 2024! The dress has a dropped waist, which is super on trend, and features bow details on the shoulders and a removable bow at the back of the dress. It is two-toned: the very top of the dress and the trim is cream, and the rest of the dress is a soft white.

The dress is labelled as a size 6, but I had a tailor who specializes in vintage bridal dresses add two additional sections of fabric on each side of the waist so the dress would fit me. I’m about 5'6, waist 31.5 inches, and hips are free in the dress. It’s incredibly well designed while still being comfortable—I felt super supported by the construction of the dress, and didn’t end up wearing any sort of shapewear underneath, which was amazing. I wore the dress with Manolo Blahnik Maysale 50 mules (so about 1.9 inch heels) and it just skimmed the ground. I also wore flats for the majority of the night (IYKYK) and didn’t feel like I was going to trip.

The original owner purchased the dress for $3,500 USD in 1999. I’ve priced it according to its current quirks. Because of the gorgeous, but delicate and somewhat temperamental fabric (silk satin, I think!), the trim was not 100 percent perfectly clean when I received it. Although it is currently being professionally cleaned, I doubt it will be like new. See images! I also recall there being a few little fabric nicks on the dress as well, I can ask the cleaner to take photos once cleaning is complete. Note: Dress will not be fully cleaned and ready to send out until July 2024. The tailor also put a few stitches (completely unnoticeable) on the bottom front of the bodice, to help the fabric sit flatly. Even when it’s pressed, the dress creases easily, as an FYI.

It’s rare to find a ‘90s designer wedding dress that is larger than a size six, so I hope this one finds a new home!
