The Dress

A bit about Lola Varma :
This is bridal for the modern day minimalist. As a fashion and wedding photographer first, designer Courtney found that many women didn’t connect with the traditional details and dated silhouettes of the industry. For these women she created Lola Varma - a collection of unconventional bridal wear. Sleek and elegant gowns and separates inspired by vintage shapes, handmade in Australia.

A bit about the dress:
The 'Rosily' Dress is a dramatic, fitted silhouette, highlighting the décolletage with its bold frill detail. Billowing sleeves finished with a dramatic cuffs and matching button detail.

Worn for our wedding in September 2021 and dry-cleaned perfectly it has been packaged up into a beautiful box and is currently sitting on a shelf in our bedroom. This dress made me feel completely comfortable on our wedding day - it has a little loop along the bottom seam to allow you to loop around your wrist for dancing. It was a hot day in September but although long sleeve, I didn't feel too hot in it. The material is beautiful silk which flows so nicely and looks chic.

I am generally a size 8 and had this dress fitted with London stockist The Fall Bride (please see measurements). I was hesitant about trying this on because I have a larger bust but it didn't fall down at all, and due to the material being such great quality it felt snug and supportive too. The dress could easily be taken in at the bust by a good seamstress should you need it.

Alterations

The dress length was generic when it arrived (and long!) so I have had it shortened. I am 5'5" and had a 3" heel - the dress was still able to sweep the floor as it has a short train at the back, and at the front you were able to see my toes when I walked but touched the ground slightly when standing.
