The Dress

A timeless custom dress by Paolo Sebastian, a celebrated Australian couture house.

The design of the dress was inspired by the screen goddesses of Old Hollywood - in particular an evening dress worn by Grace Kelly in 'To Catch a Thief'.

The dress is made of a crinkle chiffon and georgette fabric which are 100% silk. The fabric is incredibly light and soft and moves very easily.

The dress has a fitted corset with straps to secure the corset around the waist. The corset enclosure is elegantly covered at the back by buttons in the same fabric as the dress.

There are detachable wings that can be pinned at the top of each shoulder of the dress to trail behind the train, providing a sense of heightened drama. I chose this look for my ceremony.

The wings can also be removed or elegantly criss-crossed at the back and pinned to the opposite shoulder so that the fabric floats above the ground. I wore the criss-cross style for my reception so that I could move freely in a crowd.

The train length is 200cm and there is a bustle to pin the train up at the back. This can be elegantly covered by the wings if they are worn in the criss-cross style described above.

The dress is a dream to wear. It has been worn once and carefully dry-cleaned. There is some very subtle discolouring from wear at the base of the dress but this is only noticeable on close inspection.

I am 163cm tall and wore the dress with platforms with a heel height of 12.5cm. The waist to floor length of the dress is 97cm.
