The Dress

The Holmes dress is the perfect twist of modern, timelessness. Featuring a flattering structured bodice, fit and flare silhouette that elongates and creates a sense of curves in all the right places. This gown is set apart from others with a dramatic flowing bow. The bow adds that little something 'extra', standing out in every photo and video from the day.

The bonded georgette (type of silk crepe) fabric was extremely forgiving both in the sense of smoothing out any lumps and bumps but also easy to spot clean on the day, iron and dry clean. For me a little champagne spillage was cleaned up in an instant with soda water, making it perfect for any clumsy brides or lets be honest guests...

I added matching buttons trailing down the back zipper, so when the bow was removed for dancing the back still had a special feature. Bonus - this dress was super easy to move and dance in. The fabric moulds to the body but moves with ease. We did a choreographed dance including lifts and dips with no issues.

I loved this dress and know I'll always look back in decades to come feeling confident and happy with my choice as it doesn't follow a trending style, it's timeless without being beige classic A-line gown.

Alterations

- I'm tall - 178cm (5"11) and wore 9cm Loeffler Randall, Camellia Knot heels on the day. Meaning many women will fit the length of the gown or could remove additional length. The hem was shortened in line with the curve of the original dress keeping the train.
- Shorten Lining straight all the way around making it easier to walk in.
- The dress was taken in side seams from underarm to hip to fit my measurements - it is a moulding fabric so stretches over time with wear then bounces back after dry cleaning.
- Buttons were added down the back zipper so when bow was removed there was still a feature.
- Hand loop was added and a bustle- bustle stitching needs amending.
- Train piece - 2 grab stitches and hooked up centre piece was added underlay so the bow could be kept on the dress tucked up after the ceremony- although I decided not to do this on the day.
