About the Dress

Rare 1991 custom AMSALE A101 wedding gown, worn once by me, the original owner, and accompanied by its original coordinating custom veil and headpiece.

This gown was individually custom created for me in New York City in 1991. I worked directly with Amsale Aberra throughout the design and fitting process, including multiple fittings, before the gown was completed for my wedding.

In 2026, I contacted AMSALE and shared my original wedding photographs. AMSALE’s longtime production manager identified my gown as a custom version of A101 — the first dress with which Amsale launched her collection, inspired by Amsale’s own wedding gown.

AMSALE also confirmed that my custom version is made of duchess satin with an organza build-up into long sleeves, with matching duchess satin edging at the neckline and on the veil.

The gown has a classic fitted column/sheath silhouette with sheer organza detailing, fabric-covered buttons, sculptural rosette detailing at the back, and a dramatic pleated train.

Included with the gown are the original coordinating custom veil and headpiece, along with the preservation box. Keeping the original ensemble together is especially important to me.

After my wedding, the gown was professionally cleaned and preserved and has remained stored for more than three decades. It is in beautiful vintage condition for its age. There are two small age-related marks and a few missing covered buttons. I have not attempted additional cleaning or restoration.

Approximate garment measurements, taken flat and doubled: Bust 34”, Waist 28”, Hips 35”. Custom made with no size label; Stillwhite requires a label size, so US 6 reflects my size at the time.

Original 1991 wedding photographs are included in the listing, and I have written correspondence from AMSALE confirming the A101 attribution and materials.

This is a special opportunity to own a documented early custom Amsale gown and its original bridal accessories, with a wonderful connection to the beginnings of the AMSALE collection.
