About the Dress

**The dress**

A strapless A-line gown in ivory or soft white, cut in a heavy structured fabric with a matte, slightly textured finish, most likely a silk dupion, mikado or shantung rather than a shiny satin. The bodice is fitted and boned, with a straight neckline finished by a wide folded-over cuff or turnback band that runs right across the bust, which is the dress's main design feature.

From a high, slightly raised waist seam the skirt falls clean and full to the floor with no gathering or ruching, extending into a modest sweep train at the back. There is no beading, lace, appliqué or embroidery anywhere. It's an entirely plain, architectural design, very much in the understated late 1990s to mid 2000s bridal idiom.

**The interior**

The close-up shows a corset-style back closure with satin ribbon lacing through fabric loops, over an ivory mesh or tulle modesty panel, with a soft satin lining beneath. That construction is good news for Cherished Gowns: large unbroken panels of clean satin and silk, no beadwork to unpick, plus usable ribbon and tulle. One dress of this kind would yield a great deal.
