Alterations

  • Alterations that we made: I ordered the dress in a size 16, probably could have gotten away with a 14 but was a little nervous about sizing too close to my actual measurements
  • We didn't have to take it in too much but we did take the bodice in to make it nice and tight around my chest
  • We took out the rubber strip of material that lines the inside top of the bodice because it was causing a weird puckering
  • Taking it out helped it lay flat against my chest
  • Tightened the elastic around the top of the sleeves a bit to help it stay up on my shoulders, as I did not want the off-the-shoulder look
  • I did take some photos with it off the shoulder so I included one of those photos so you can see how it looks
  • Added bra cups
  • Shortened skirt length so it was exactly floor length
  • (I wore flats on the wedding day)
  • Added a two part bustle that is perfect for this style of dress
  • The heavier underside ties up and then the light over-layer is an over bustle with small hooks at the hips
  • The last photo I included shows the bustle when we were dancing - unfortunately we had to bustle it in a bit of a rush so it wasn't laying as flat as it should have but you can see all the connection points, it creates a cute little bump in the back side and some pretty draping

About the Dress

If your dream dress is something comfortable, simple, and romantic, this is the dress for you. I knew I wanted a dress with sleeves and a flowy skirt and I could not have been happier with this choice. On the wedding day I felt beautiful, feminine, and comfortable.

The color of the dress is "winter white" which is a slightly off white. I wouldn't call it ivory because most ivory colored veils and materials looked yellow against this dress. The drapey, chiffon skirt creates the most beautiful movement and is so comfortable. So fun for dancing! The bodice is fitted enought that it stays put, even though the dress is essentially a sleeveless one with the sleeves attached just at the armpit and can drop down easily if that's your preferred look. The sleeves are super flowy, slightly sheer chiffon that were so comfortable and breathable on the wedding day. The back comes down to about the middle of my back and has beautiful cloth covered buttons (decorative only). So gorgeous! Full disclosure - the little hook at the very top of the back zipper broke when I was getting zipped in to it. It was not noticeable and I didn't have it repaired afterwards so that would be the only item that might need repair.

I am including the veil in the sale price of this dress. It is a floor length tulle veil with comb. Pretty simple, no embellishments. It caught the air great for dramatic photos, and was super lightweight.

I had the dress professionally cleaned and it was packaged up in an archival box but I've taken it out so that it doesn't get too wrinkled. I have it in the garment bag it came with, along with the veil, and instructions for how to bustle the skirt. You may need to have it professionally steamed to get out any creases but it is totally clean.
