Camilla and Marc, Custom Made

From the moment we got engaged, I knew I didn't want just a typical wedding dress. I wanted something classic, elegant and modern - the kind of dress I won't regret in 20 years; something different but something "me."

All my inspiration came to me when holidaying in Rome. I tried on designer gown after designer gown in the beautiful ateliers, yet nothing had my heart. Yet as I kept exploring, I started to piece my own dress together in my mind.
Previously, my mum was a couturier servicing private clients. I thought it would be so special to wear a dress on my wedding day which my mum had designed and hand sewn.

We crafted the skirt in a beautiful French silk which has a gold lurex paisley throughout.
I wanted my shoes (10cm heels) to be exposed, but I also wanted a slight train. We designed the skirt to have a waterfall hem - softly gathered at the waist with the hem falling above the ankle at the front and gradually lengthening to a train at the back. The waist of the skirt is 67cm diameter.

I knew exactly how I wanted the top to look to go with the skirt, yet I struggled to find the right textile. I stumbled upon the Camilla and Marc Assent top while shopping and knew instantly it was perfect. A textured ivory sleeveless top with a high neck. 100% poylester, and breathed beautifully/. Tags were cut off yet are in the box with the top. Although I bought this at the end of 2014, it still remains current stock in store.

The skirt and top were pulled together with a thick taffeta silk sash in ivory, tied into an enormous bow at the back - so I could still like a princess on the day.
Our wedding was on a warm summers day, so I was really pleased with the light-weight of the fabric (didn't die under a million layers of tulle), yet it was heavy enough to sit with body and move perfectly.
