The Dress
This Genevieve dress was purchased on 3/8/17 from the Anthropologie BHLDN store in Beverly Hills, CA for $1,400, plus tax came out to $1,522.50. It arrived about a week later and I ran to have it altered a little ASAP. The alterations were 1) I added exact matching lace to make the deep v-neck church and mom friendlier (though the latter was still not completely thrilled-- compromise!) and 2) the bottom was brought up about 2 inches, but done in a way so that the scallop lace at the bottom is still in place. The back of the dress is meant to be a little longer than the front, to flare out a bit in the back when standing at the altar and for pictures. However, the length was meant to be as easy to walk and dance in as possible. It was just right above the ground. I am 5'7 and was not wearing heels.
Other notes:
1) take a look at the BHLDN website but the dress is not white. More like an ivory or champagne. I think it's gorgeous but you should be aware.
2) I scoured the internet for WEEKS to find the exact lace that BHLDN used. Long story short, I thought I wanted a dress with the top half of the Genevieve and a more A-line, flowey bottom but changed my mind and purchased this one last minute, so I had extra lace. I ended up finding the lace on Etsy, from a vendor in China who was super sweet and accommodating. I mention this because a) I can give you their information if you want more and b) I used some of the lace for my veil and it came out pretty awesome.
3) If you want the deep v-neck (and don't have a mother like mine) then the added lace can simply be removed. I can send a picture of the inside if you'd like.
4) The dress is pretty flattering on top. It comes with built in cups and has boning or something that keeps everything all-together nicely up there.
5) I wouldn't call the dress backless but the back is lower than others. The low back still manages to keep the front together and tight.
6) The dress is really comfortable and I danced the night away in it! This was one of my requirements. This reminds me... one other slight alteration... it can't be seen in pictures but the silk lining underneath was slit open a bit so that I could spread my legs more freely on the dance floor. Otherwise, the inner lining is more fitting than the outer lace. It has been used so don't expect a perfect dress but I did get it dry cleaned in Colombia and I still carried it like a baby on the flight back so it's still pretty good. I am happy to send current pics too.
7) About me... my jeans are normally size 26, I think I am an athletic/ slender build...but also a little curvy. Bra size C cup. With the boobs and the slightly muscular back, it was nice that the open back could accommodate me. With other dresses I often had to go up a size and then would have had to tailor it a lot. This dress was awesome because it fit so near perfect without much. Clothing sizes range 0, 2, 4 but I think 2 is the norm. My fat likes to rest on my thighs and I thought this dress hid it well.
8) Did I mention I loved this dress? ;)
See above.
