About the Dress

Olivia Deur Couture bridal cape, custom made for me in 2025. Never worn.

I, like many others, fell in love with the Alex Preisz cape she wore for her wedding day that was featured in Vogue (look it up for a good idea of how this cape moves), and needed the real thing. I went to the original seamstress Olivia Deur and had it made. The whole process took around six to eight months. The fabric and trim had to be sourced, then hand dyed champagne, and put together panel by panel.

It’s a hard garment to comprehend if you’re not holding it - layers of antique lace are backed on tulle, with a tulle overlay covered in sequins and embellishments that glitter in the sunlight. It breathes very well in heat as it’s mesh, but when holding the whole thing, it does have some weight to it - which helps keep the train down in any breeze. The sleeves are fitted all the way down to the wrist, and the point of the sleeve reaches down toward your middle finger on the back of your hand. There are two darts on the back of the bodice creating shape, and ruching where it comes out into the skirt, which begins at the hips. While in direct light and not bunched together it may look ivory, this is certainly a champagne cape.

While this is couture and made for me, it being a cape and not closing in the front means the measurements that really matter most are that your shoulder width, arms, and height. I’m a size UK 12 and 5’9”. The entire rest of it is loose and has no waist or hip requirement to fit. I’d say if you are significantly shorter than me - 5’5” or less - you may struggle to move in this as the skirt would be too far down from your hip and drag. It is ideal you are near my height.

The entire work cost around £2,500 once all was said and done with purchasing fabrics, dressmaking cost, and postage. The reason for the large discount is on its arrival, I didn’t like the hood it originally included. I had the hood removed and the trim moved to surround the neckline instead, which you can see in the close up isn’t to the Olivia standard of the rest of the garment.

Other than this change, it’s in pristine condition and completely unworn. It’s one of a kind - you won’t find this (or anything like it!) in any bridal store. My reason for letting it go is I, much to my dismay after spending so much money on this, fell in love with a dress off of Vinted. And it was too late! It is truly gorgeous though and I am really sad to be letting it go.

Any questions, drop me a message!
