The Dress

I had this dress made for me by a seamstress who has done bespoke work for Prada, Alexander McQueen, Emilia Wickstead and others.

The dress is based on a Taller Marmo dress that I loved so much but when I tried it on I was too disappointed by the quality of material used for it to be suitable for my wedding (taller marmo options are either viscose or very very thin silk).

Instead, this dress is made from 22 momme silk with a beautiful sheen and from 8-ply ostrich feathers. The materials alone cost a small fortune but it was so worth it for the feeling of wearing it. It was my dancing dress and man is this a dress made for dancing! The material is just so swishy!

I’m a size 8 and I think given the loose design it would fit people either side of a size 8.

The dress is almost perfect - I’ve taken pictures of the only signs of wear I can see. As you’ll see in my photos and video, the dress will need a steam before you wear in as it’s been in a garment bag in my wardrobe since I got it back.

I got married during a heatwave so I had it made to be very light but if you were getting married at a colder time of year, my seamstress said it wouldn’t be a big deal to add another layer of fabric to the dress.

Note: in the video I’m not wearing shoes and I’m 5 ft 4 - if you are my height you would want to wear shoes with a heel or you’ll end up standing on the feathers
