The Dress

Welcome to the world of Edwardian fashion! Made about 1912, this lovely ornate dress is a stunner: one your guests will remember. It is ivory-coloured and has floral embroidery and lace inserts. The back, with its peplum and central embroidered rose, is even more elaborate than the front (useful during the ceremony!). The dress fastens up the left front and over the left shoulder to the under-collar, with press-studs and hooks-and-eyes. The over-collar, which is boned, fastens down the back with tiny buttons. It has Irish lace, valued by the collector. Linen is the most robust of the antique fabrics; if you treat the lace with the respect it deserves, this dress can be stored as a family heirloom for your daughter and grand-daughter, increasing in value.
Please note that the size listed is only an approximation; you need to check that the measurements would fit you. Edwardian dresses were worn looser around the bust than on this mannequin, which has Barbie-doll proportions. Best suited to someone with waist 60, bust 83cm (perhaps up to 86cm). Fabric from the hem could be used to widen the bodice (but collectors don't like alterations). The cuffs are fairly small (about 18cm inside circumference). The collar is about 34cm circumference; if need be, the upper buttons could be left undone. Length shoulder to waist about 40cm, waist to hem about 94.
Condition: very good. There are a few small breaks in the lace and a couple of storage spots, which won't be noticed. As with any antique dress, we recommend that you practice getting into and out of a car in it, well in advance of the wedding. You may wish to change into your going-away dress after the ceremony and photos.
The dress has been hand-washed. It comes from a smoke-free home (with sweet-smelling moth-repellent).
I have other original Edwardian dresses for bridesmaids and flowergirls; not a matching set, as each is individual. A few are coloured. White dresses could be worn with coloured slips or sashes.
