The Story

"Celeste' is a striking statement gown. Its collar detail and 3/4 sleeve and detailed cuffs were inspired by a 70's gown my mother wore. The collar beading influenced by a dragonflies wings but given an Egyptian feel combined with Egyptian stars on the sleeves and skirt. Art Nouveau patterning adorns the bodice and skirt. In the light the silvers delicately change to a beautiful heather colour."

This stunning gown set the theme for our Art Deco / Art Nouveau wedding day, wearing it made me feel a million dollars as every bride should on her special day! It is truly stunning and catches the daylight beautifully.

There are two elements to this dress, a slip and gown:

A plain ivory satin double layer slip with a round neck at the front and a V neck at the back cut on the bias. The slip slides on overhead without a zip. The slip has not been altered other than length. It is slim fitting but not snugly fitted. Loose, cool and comfortable.

The hand sewn, beaded gown has a round neck to the front with Egyptian detailing, with a 3-buttoned fastening at the top of the back which leaves an open section to the zip fastening at the wait, showing the slip. The waist is defined by a drop-waist band in keeping with the Art Deco era. The Art Noveau arches in the beading front and back sit on the hips and flatter your figure. The gown is loose, light and comfortable. I had a Vegas dessert wedding, ate too much, and did not feel at all uncomfortable.

I am 5 feet 5.5 inches tall and wore 4 inch heels on the day. My measurements are 34D bust, 28 inch waist, 37 inch hips. Please check the measurements stated, they are dress measurements. The dress is not fitted so would fit slightly larger or smaller frame.

To buy the dress new, it would be made to order and take 6-8 months and cost £4500-£5000.

The beaded gown has been altered at the waistband and in length. The skirt has been picked up and folded under the waistband to allow the arches to sit correctly on my hips and to reduce the overall skirt length without losing any beading from the bottom. This alteration has been carefully done by hand in clear thread and I'm told can be quite simply undone as no fabric was cut. This would involve a minor alteration to the zip if let down. the depth of the waistband could be gained in length so about an inch and a half.

The length has been altered with a slight scallop cut to the front to follow the line of the beaded pattern, the back flares slightly to trail a little without being tricky to walk, again, the hem has been done by hand and could be let down to gain and inch and a half at the back, the front profile is cut.

The slip has been altered in length only to sit about an inch shorter than the gown outer layer which I'm told is normal. Alterations cost around £250 in total, they were professionally done with a view to being easily revised if required.
